AERATION AND OVERSEEDING

AERATION AND OVERSEEDING IS A COMMON PRACTICE IN THE FALL

Aeration is the process of perforating the soil and removing small plugs of soil and thatch from the lawn. Thatch is a layer of dead grass, roots, and other organic matter that can accumulate on the soil surface and hinder the flow of air, water, and nutrients to the grass roots. Plug/Core Aeration, which is the method used by Innovative, is the more effective method of aeration. It removes small plugs or cores of soil from the lawn, creating channels for air, water, and nutrients to penetrate the soil and reach the grassroots. It also helps reduce soil compaction and encourages deeper root growth.

Overseeding is the process of spreading grass seed over an existing lawn to introduce new grass varieties or to thicken up the lawn’s density. It is often combined with aeration to ensure that the newly sown seeds make good contact with the soil and have a better chance of germination.

Overseeding is particularly useful in rejuvenating older lawns that have thinning grass, bare spots, or patches of undesirable grass types. The new grass seed fills in these areas, making the lawn more even and attractive. Additionally, overseeding can introduce grass varieties that are more disease-resistant, drought-tolerant, or better suited to the local climate.
